So You Think You're Fast? AC Hotlap Challenge: McLaren 650S GT3 @ Zandvoort

Recommended Posts

AC has an official in game app for comparing times with your Steam friends, so time to have a little fun!

You have 7 days to post your best time and see how you compare.

The next Challenge is:

Challenges > Hotlap: McLaren 650S GT3 @ Zandvoort

Prerequisites:
Game Settings

Launcher settings for ABS and TC must be set to FACTORY.

(once on track you can change the settings if the car allows it)

Stability OFF, Fuel ON

Penalties must be enabled

Before you can start posting laps you need to do two things (if you haven't already)

1. Activate the in game Friends Leaderbord. To do this, take to the track and move your mouse to the right hand edge of the screen to activate the apps sidebar. From here select the Friends Leaderboard (it's near the bottom)

You should then see a leaderboard similar to this. You can drag it round to a suitable position.

Once the app is active it will log your laps and list those of your Steam Friends.

2. In order to get an accurate set of comparison of times you will need to add people to your friends list. You should be able to find all of us at the SimHQ Motorsports Steam Group. Just send out friend invites to those taking part and when they accept you can see their times on your leaderboard.

I have most people already, but if you want to enter, please add me as a friend first (if you haven't already), then post a time. I'll periodically post my leaderboard in the following post so you can all see who you need to befriend. Hopefully after a short while we'll all be bosom buddies.

Have Fun!!!

The challenge is open immediately and will expire exactly 7 days from the time of this post. :)

Did 37.5 yesterday after three beers. Spent four hours today trying to beat it before finally finding a mere 2 tenths. Go figure. Lots of dicking about with the setup which I'm never sure makes me faster or slower.

Was hoping to get into the 36's but as always there's a couple of key corners where I really struggle for consistency.

I have no idea how to drive these cars. high 39s even if I drive straight through the chicane I don´t think I can find the 37s

I can post my setup here, but it's nothing special. Afaik Oqvist didnt improve his PB (or by a little) with my setup, so its mainly down to the driver.

Setup: hhttps://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0fucTOr_lwwQXR3ZVEtMGVDekE/view?usp=sharing

If anyone is interested, I can upload a replay.

It was better then my setup. Did a 38.7 in qualification will give it a go tomorrow. I wonder a bit why my old times are not counted. Is it nickname it goes by?

30 GT3 cars at Zandvoort is s a recepy for mayhem :)

Has to be hotlap for the leaderboards to work. The friends leaderboard should show a message to that effect if you open it in practice.

36.9-something was bloody hard work. Took almost an entire bottle of wine and an equal volume of sweat.

Was slightly preoccupied by a certain track project this weekend so wasn't able to put much time into this. The little time I did get I really didn't like the car much. It doesn't really fit my driving style and found it a bit too unstable and was unable to tune it out. In either case I don't think i would have ever got down to the 1:35s.

I managed to dip into highest of 37s. I think I know two places where I can gain solid laptime (at least 0,5 sec)...  But knowing it is much easier than doing it... ;-)

Think I learned a couple of things in terms of setup. It'll be interesting to see if this transfers to other cars and tracks.

Firstly, just because instinct tells you a circuit is high-ish downforce (as I assumed here), just sticking tons of rear wing on is definitely the wrong thing to do. Because GT cars are inherently limited in terms of front downforce, I struggled hugely with understeer. Didn't think reducing the rear wing would help that because it obviously doesn't increase the front downforce, but the reality (which I only discovered last night) was that less rear wing made for a much better *balanced* car.

Also regarding balance, I've a new appreciation for the effects of adjusting anti-roll bars. This might be specific to the unrelenting non laser-scanned bumpiness of Zandvoort, but significantly stiffening the front relative to the rear made for much improved traction out of corners. Another thing I noticed was that incremental adjustments to the rear ARB had a much greater effect than the front.

Took a quick look at Archii's setup ini but haven't had chance to drive it. It looks lower downforce and stiffer in terms of springs and dampers so it'll be interesting to try that. Doubt there's much hope of me getting anywhere near his pace tho'.

Thanks to everyone who posted times.  Thanks to Per for suggesting such a great combo.

Thank Archii.  Sounds good.  We'll commence on Monday.

Darren, I don't know if its still possible, but I saw you guys released a new track (haven't downloaded it yet, I just saw the topic, reading it now), can we change the track to VIR? With the same car, please. (Havent tried the car but it should be fun :D)

We'll stick with the original selection for now.  Got some tweaks coming to VIR mid week.  I'd rather wait until we get those released.
